Primary Role

Plans, directs, and implements organization safety program to ensure safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    · Ensure that all policies, programs, and daily operations follow all local, state, and federal laws and procedures.
    · Implement and enforce the company’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).
    · Inspect and maintain Heat Illness Prevention Programs (HIPP).
    · Coordinate trainings and assign safety training schedule annually for orientations
    · Facilitate safety trainings for managers, supervisors, and employees in both English and Spanish.
    · Audit safety records for any discrepancies and address them accordingly.
    · Develop, maintain, and implement health and safety policies and procedures by managing company safety training programs.
    · Conduct pesticide trainings and update pesticide information binder.
    · Conduct fieldworker trainings and document them for inspection purposes.
    · Communicate with Food Safety Manager any safety needs or concerns for auditing purposes.
    · Investigate accidents, near-misses, and injuries on a timely basis; and review and/or write reports and make safety improvement recommendations regarding incident/accident prevention.
    · Drive employee to corresponding clinics or hospital visits as needed
    · File Workers Compensation claims and working closely with claims adjusters and medical facilities.
    · Work closely with Workers’ Compensation carrier to schedule and arrange claim reviews
    · Follow up on all injuries and make sure employee is seeking proper medical treatment
    · Submit all injury required paperwork to proper departments, workers comp, insurance company or employee
    · Assist employee with any questions or concerns during the injury process
    · Work with insurance broker/consultant to address any issues or safety concerns or injury volumes
    · Address any auto accidents or damage to company vehicles
    · Work auto claims adjuster to find solution to automobile claims or other issues
    · Maintain Pulpstream allocation funds and submit receipts accordingly
    · Review and update all required OSHA and Labor Law postings in all areas that require them, including farmyards, farm shops and office areas.
    · Update, maintain, and file OSHA 300, 300A, 301 Logs.
    · Conduct safety trainings on tractor, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, hot work management, forklift, irrigation, and pesticide safe handling, heat illness prevention, First Aid/CPR, safe transport of field equipment, and AEDs, and various other safety topics.
    · Promote effective communication programs to enhance and encourage overall employee safety awareness and knowledge while increasing accountability for all site locations.
    · Maintain a presence at field locations to review activities and correct unsafe behaviors
    · Conduct periodic safety inspections and hazard assessments and assign responsibility and deadlines to correct any safety issues identified during the inspections.
    · Maintain OSHA documentation including SDS binders and chemical lists. Work with other managers responsible for hazardous material handling.
    · Evaluate hazardous conditions and practices and develop hazard control practices and programs.
    · Write policies and procedures as part of required safety programs and be able to translate them from English to Spanish and vice versa.
    · Assist staff to understand Cal/OSHA & Fed OSHA regulations and standards, including guidance on handling Cal/OSHA & Fed OSHA compliance, inspections, and citations.
    · Research and stay up to date on CAL/OSHA & Fed OSHA regulations and requirements.
    · Provide topical subjects for Safety Meetings and randomly observe ‘Tailgate’ Safety Meetings.
    · Routinely inspect all equipment and vehicles for general safety conditions, field, office, shop.
    · Ensure lockout/tag out procedures are being followed.
    · Assist Human Resources department with any issues concerning employee safety concerns

    · Conducts appropriate and required program requirements (e.g. industrial hygiene, safety equipment usage, confined space, ergonomics).
    · Uses knowledge, skills, and abilities compulsory for developing training programs to reduce use of outside contractors.
    · Assists with coaching all employees, leads, and supervisors on safety related issues.
    · Produces and maintains company safety compliance calendar with timely submittals of permit applications and fees and regulatory reports and plans (e.g. OSHA logs or equivalent).
    · Manages safety related vendor contracts and budgets (e.g., safety equipment providers, consultants, etc.)
    · Assist in preparation, distribution, and communication of a variety of safety reports, including injury trend analysis.
